    Binary classification in Machine learning

The binary classification problem in machine learning studies how to classify two categories of data, which is a foundational problem behind statistical decision making as well as deep learning in artificial intelligence. The idea is to use a computer to build a classifier which maps an input to a binary output, by using a finite set of input and output samples. We shall discuss both statistical learning and algorithmic aspect of this problem. If time permits, numerical examples shall be given to illustrate some theoretical results.

    A bit of tropical geometry

Tropical geometry has been knowing a continuous development for the last 25 years due to its relations to many mathematical fields and some spectacular applications. It would be boring and fruitless to list even the most important results. Instead I will give an idea of some basic constructions and some properties thereof. I'll try to show many pictures of those objects. No knowledge is required beside (very little) basic algebra and geometry.
