Data science in interdisciplinary research projects
How is global warming affecting plant growth? The masterclass illustrates how mathematics can be used to answer such a question. In the mathematical landscape, we will move from linear algebra to statistical data analysis. Other questions, such as how to achieve a brilliant smile (robust linear regression to model the dental arch), how to better understand cheese ripening (kernel methods to analyse microbiological data) and how to improve team behavior in sport (Voronoi mesh to characterize player positions), will also be addressed.
15h00 - Dan Popovici
A Brief Introduction to Projective and Compact Kähler Manifolds
We will start by giving the definitions of complex manifolds, complex vector bundles and Hermitian metrics. We will then discuss two positivity notions for differential forms in the complex setting. We will go on to introduce the notions of projective and Kähler manifolds and will provide quite a few examples thereof before pointing out a key difference between these two classes of manifolds that is captured by the Kodaira Embedding Theorem.
